Police get new DIG, AIGs, as PSC promotes 6,618

The Police Service Commission has approved the promotion of 6,618 senior Police Officers.

An Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Olushola Oyebade, currently at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, Jos, Plateau State, was promoted to the next rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police to represent the South-West geopolitical zone in the police management team. Cultism: Police Dismisses an Officer in Akwa Ibom

A police officer in Akwa Ibom State has been dismissed from the police force for involvement in cultism. Read below a press release by the police department.

CP AKWA IBOM DISMISSES A POLICEMAN FOR BEING A CONFESSED CULTIST
-ARRESTS TWELVE (12) OTHER SUSPECTED CULTISTS
-VOWS TO CONTINUE THE ONSLAUGHT AGAINST CULTISTS

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command under the leadership of CP IMOHIMI EDGAL is determined to decimate cultism and other crimes in the State.
To this end, the Command has dismissed F/NO. 513379 PC Mfon Esio for discreditable conduct to wit cultism. The said Constable on 20th May, 2020 was fingered in a Junior Vikings Confraternity initiation in which one Ubong John William ‘m’ was allegedly abducted to a bush along Marina Road, Eket where he was forcefully initiated into the Junior Vikings Confraternity. The Constable has been subjected to orderly room trial where he was found guilty of the offence and has been dismissed immediately from the Force. COVID-19: Security agents killed more Nigerians in two weeks than Coronavirus – Commission

Nigerian security agents enforcing the Coronavirus lockdown in Nigeria have killed more citizens in the last two weeks than the deadly virus, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has said.

While the disease has so far killed 11 persons in Nigeria, according to data from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), security operatives have caused the death of 18 people, the NHRC said in a report. In Nigeria today, the issue of community policing appears to be in the forefront of social and political discourse, as it has overshadowed other pressing national issues. This is the latest in the series championed by the political elites, and the masses have latched unto it like lice to a dog. Here in Akwa Ibom, I have even heard a suggestion from an academic that we should return to the pre-colonial era practice or system of community security! This is a sad commentary.
